The last few years have not followed a straight line.
They have been shaped by redirection, resilience, academic intensity, health management and the constant tension between ambition and limitation. What once felt like detours now reveal themselves as structural foundations.
Looking back, I no longer see disruption. I see preparation.
Early Redirection: When Health Reshapes Plans
When I left school, I had no intention of pursuing further education. However, a shift in my health narrowed my options and made college the most viable path forward.
What initially felt restrictive became formative.
Although I performed strongly across subjects, I fell short in Biology for the degree routes I had intended — neuropsychology or midwifery. Determined to keep those options open, I invested over a year of additional time and significant financial resources to retake the qualification and secure the required grade.
But once achieved, a deeper realisation surfaced:
While I was capable, the traditional examination structure was not aligned with how my brain performs under pressure.
Interest alone does not guarantee sustainability.
So, I pivoted.
Changing Direction: Choosing Strategy Over Stubborness
Instead of pursuing a path that would require constant friction, I enrolled in a degree in International Management of Tourism, Events and Hospitality.
This decision proved transformational.
The course offered:
- Strategic business insight
- Operational planning skills
- Financial literacy
- Marketing frameworks
- Entrepreneurial development
- Transferable skills across industries

At the start, imposter syndrome was strong. My initial goal was simply to pass, but a 98% grade in my first major assessment changed that mindset entirely.
That moment ignited a competitive standard within myself. I went on to achieve a First-Class degree and was awarded Student of the Year and Best Overall Contribution for my undergraduate cohort.
The award did more than decorate a certificate — it redefined my self-expectation.

Master’s Level: Achievement & Burnout
Motivated by momentum, I pursued a Master’s degree with the same intensity alongside various other qualifications and certifications centered around entrepeneurship, project management, sustainability and website building.
I managed to achieve Student of the Year and Best Overall Performance in my masters but achievement carries a cost when ambition and health collide.
Sustaining high academic performance alongside complex health challenges meant operating at maximum capacity for prolonged periods. By the time I completed my postgraduate studies, I had achieved the goals I set — but the internal fuel was depleted.
What I gained in accolades, I temporarily lost in energy.
Reframing “Delay” as Strategic Incubation
During my studies, I had spent over four years researching and planning a health-focused business concept.
However, launching it required a level of personal health stability that was not realistic at that time.
Instead of forcing a premature launch, I paused.
That pause was not failure. It was discernment.
I shifted focus toward something that:
- Supported my wellbeing
- Generated natural endorphins
- Reduced physical stress
- Aligned with creativity
- Had scalable business potential
That focus became Emzy Music.
And in hindsight, it was not Plan B — it was the right plan at the right time.

Building the Brand: Skill Acquisition and Precision
Post-graduation, I completed a web design course, achieving 100% — the highest grade I have received to date. I was also delighted to be awarded Website of the Year for a website building submission i was graded 100% on.
Learning to design and build my own website:
- Strengthened digital literacy
- Improved branding clarity
- Enhanced user experience understanding
- Increased autonomy
Perfectionism, often a challenge, became an asset. It pushed me to learn basic coding to customise functionality beyond template limitations.
The result was not just a website — but a technical skillset.
Launching the website also forced a long-delayed step: releasing music publicly. I wanted my brand presence to reflect intention, not hesitation.
So I launched.
Branding as Strategy, Not Decoration
Selecting the name “Emzy Music” followed extensive ideation. The simplicity, memorability and tonal resonance felt right — reminiscent in structure of artists such as Roxy Music, yet distinct.
The logo development process spanned dozens of design iterations. The final mark was intentionally adaptable — capable of functioning both as a full wordmark and as a standalone icon for merchandise and digital scaling.
Branding is not aesthetic indulgence. It is identity architecture.

Technical Expansion: Live Performance Engineering
To elevate live performance quality, I invested in the Boss RC-505 MKII.
Looping technology enables a solo performer to create layered arrangements including rhythm, bass, harmony and atmospheric textures in real time.
However, looping is precision-dependent:
- Timing must be exact.
- Structure must be memorised.
- Motor coordination must be trained.
- Mistakes compound quickly.
The hours required to master even one track dramatically strengthened performance discipline.
But the RC-505 is a desktop unit — not foot-operated.
To solve this, I researched MIDI foot controller integration and narrowed the decision to the Behringer FCB1010 and the Nektar Pacer.
The Nektar Pacer offered greater programming flexibility.
After extensive experimentation, I independently programmed a fully customised system aligning footswitch layout with looping workflow. I configured LED colour coding to mirror track states (record, stop, clear), creating a visually intuitive live system.
This process required:
- Technical research
- Trial-and-error testing
- MIDI command configuration
- Problem-solving beyond standard tutorials
The result is a streamlined, performance-ready setup optimised for live execution.

Engineering for Portability & Practical Performance
Creating a professional live performance system for Emzy Music required more than just technical knowledge — it demanded careful planning, portability, and problem-solving. Every piece of equipment was chosen to strike a balance between functionality, ease of transport, and high-quality output, ensuring performances could be executed reliably in a variety of settings.
Our setup centres around looping technology, allowing layered arrangements of rhythm, bass, harmony, and atmosphere in real time. The Boss RC-505 MKII serves as the main desktop looper for indoor and controlled environments, offering intuitive programming, memory backups, and a hands-on interface for complex multi-track performances. Programming the MKII was challenging, but ultimately far more user-friendly than its predecessor, the Boss RC-505 MKI, which we use for outdoor performances without mains power. Programming the MKI pushed us to the edge of patience and nearly made us give up several times — but mastering it was crucial to achieving reliable, portable looping capability in battery-powered contexts.
To control the loopers without hands, we customised the Nektar Pacer foot controller. The pedals were carefully programmed to mirror the looping functions (Record/Play, Overdub, Stop, Clear Tracks) with LED indicators matching track states. This visual feedback allows precise control while performing, even in high-pressure live settings.
Other elements were chosen for portability and ergonomic efficiency:
SE V7 Microphone – corrosion-free, dent-proof, and durable, providing a reliable, high-quality sound that withstands transport and frequent use.
Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 Portable Power Station – ensures all equipment can run independently of mains power, offering flexibility for outdoor and off-grid performances.
Yamaha PSR-E383 Keyboard – battery or mains powered, lightweight and versatile for portable gigs.
Squire Mini Precision Bass & Baby Taylor Guitar – compact, lightweight instruments that reduce physical strain without compromising sound quality.
Macky Showbox & Roland Street Cube EX – portable, rechargeable PA and amp systems with built-in mixing for flexible control over sound levels and clarity in varied venues.
Through extensive research, trialing, and iterative programming, we built a rig that is compact, modular, and highly portable, yet capable of producing a rich, multi-layered sound. Every challenge — from programming the MK1 under battery power to optimising pedal layouts — contributed to a system that is efficient, reliable, and performance-ready, giving us the freedom to focus on creativity without being limited by logistics.
This approach reflects a key principle of Emzy Music: operational optimisation is just as important as artistic excellence. By investing the time to engineer a functional and portable setup, we ensure every performance — indoor or outdoor — is professional, scalable, and sustainable.
Strategic Planning and Funding Development
Alongside technical development, I have been refining:
- Business plan
- Marketing strategy
- Financial projections
- Revenue modelling
Previous funding enabled professional camera equipment acquisition. Ongoing strategic planning aims to secure additional support for promotional scaling.
Entrepreneurship is not built solely on passion. It is built on planning, timing and calculated risk.

Conclusion – No Chapter Was Wasted
From academic excellence to health setbacks, from strategic pivots to technical experimentation — every stage contributed to the infrastructure of Emzy Music.
Nothing was wasted.
Redirection built resilience.
Resilience built discipline.
Discipline built the brand.
What once felt like detours were, in reality, design phases.
And the build continues.

Wishing you all Peace, Peachy Bums, Pride, Puppies, Pandas, Ponys, Priceless Moments and All Things Perfect,
Emzy Music xxx
